Earthquake at Talca

E-mail Print PDF

Brethren,Thank you for your concern and prayers,

The pastor house is totally destroyed as well as their belongings. The pastor and Bertita only have what they are wearing. They spent Saturday at Veronica's, yesterday with me and today at Ricardo's, his brother.

About the temple we do not know the extent of the damage, since we can't get in until the experts determine the extent of the damage. However the front of the building and the tower are almost on the ground.

Part of the school building is under a fallen wall of the pastor house, destroyed.Sara Veliz house is badly damaged, her belongings are in good shape. Gaston, her husband, who recently underwent surgery is safe with a lot of trust and faith in God.

The Fernando Ortiz family lost their house. They are staying with Fernando Jr.

It appears that the rest of the congregation only went thru a frightening experience.Seeing the images of what happened don't really tell you the full story, because it is not describable. Picture a train running underground followed by the earthquake, like someone violently shaking your shoulders for two and a half minutes that seem like hours, like eternity, without being able to remain standing up.

Drawers opening up dropping its contents on the floor and furniture moving from place to place.Half hour later, on the coast, the sea carrying everything while the people were running to the hills.Sister, the power of Nature is great, but the power of God, Creator of all, is greater.Patricia, share this with our Northern brothers. Assure them however, that we are OK, except Bertita who is quite shaken by what she experienced at home.

Please share it with the church.

A hug and may God bless you all.

Christmas Greetings 2010

To the Pines Presbytery and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chile

Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

To the Beloved

Another Christmas approaches, the first decade of this century has quickly passed, and over two thousand years have gone by since God came to dwell among His people and buy back their souls.

The Good News is the same as the night the angel announced it to the watching shepherds.  In the city of David, a child was born, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  They named Him Jesus and it is by His will that we live and live again.  This is great joy and we are able to praise with the heavenly host, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men.”

This is my prayer.

That we worship God in spirit and truth, for such are the ones the Father seeks.  Let us give thanks in all things, for this is God’s will.   Seek God diligently, for these are the ones He rewards.  Let us walk in faith and not by sight, for this pleases God.  Let our faith be great, focused on the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of that faith.  Let us grow to greater maturity and unity by the Holy Spirit, and go as servants, meek and humble, speaking the truth in love.  Let us be generous and cheerful givers, conformed into the image of the eternal Son, which is God’s will for us.  Give us boldness to preach the Good News.  Jesus Christ is Lord and King of all Kings.

Let this assurance be in our hearts and rule our minds.  God is.  God is life, light, and love.  In His grace and mercy, and by the eternal and wise plan, God incarnated into His own creation to redeem us, to give us power to become the children of God, and able to share of divine life.  Never waiver.  Stand fast in this Truth who we know by name.  We pray according to the New Covenant, in the name our Lord Jesus Christ.  Be blessed, be blessed, be thrice blessed.  Freely you have received, freely give.  Amen.

In all humility and love that cannot be spoken in any language except that we share in the Living Word.  Merry Christmas to all.

Your sister and servant,

Deborah

Pines Presbytery (PCUSA) -Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Chile

Yoked together in Covenant Unity with The Lord Jesus Christ.

Welcome to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Chile and the Pines Presbytery (PCUSA) in Covenant Partnership Website.

We have created this space to further the ministries between our Churches and to preach the Good News to the whole world.

The site is created by our Covenant Team in both countries as a place to meet and as an experiment in bilingual communications.

We are able to do this due to a Mission Initiative grant from the Synod of the Sun.
